We’re putting the spotlight on some of New Zealand’s vision impaired athletes to learn more about their experiences in the sporting world.
First up, we chatted to jiu jitsu competitor Jamie Sumner. In the three and a half years since he started training in jiu jitsu, Jamie has already seen some fantastic success.
Due to the ongoing impacts of Covid-19, Blind Sport New Zealand has made the decision to cancel the 2020 BSNZ Sport Awards that were set to be held in Auckland later this year. With the cancellation and postponement of a wide range of sporting events including the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, the BSNZ Board decided that this was the best option for the event.
Blind Sport New Zealand is calling for nominations for Life Members from affiliate members and Sport New Zealand Group Partners. Life Membership is the highest level of achievement within BSNZ and aims to recognise outstanding individual contribution to blind and low vision sport within Aotearoa New Zealand.
With the implementation of the new 2020-2023 Strategic Plan, Blind Sport New Zealand (BSNZ) wants to ensure that the funding we distribute to our members reflects our new strategic priorities. Therefore, from 1st July 2020, BSNZ will no longer be accepting applications for the Project and Performance Fund and instead encourage members to apply for the newly established BSNZ Development Fund.
