Matariki South Youth Sports Programme

Halberg Disability Sport Foundation with the support of Blind Sport New Zealand have come together to create a 9-week multi-sport youth programme for children aged 5-16 years. This programme will introduce participants to a wide range of sport and active recreation available to them within the Auckland region. The programme is designed to help participants develop their physical literacy skills while building confidence and new friendships.

Transport - If transport to and from the venue is a barrier to participation, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us to discuss different options.

Archery

Date: Saturday 22 June 2019

Location: Waitakere Badminton Centre, 149/155 Royal Rd, Massey 0614

More information: Participants will have the chance to become the next Katniss Everdeen or Robin Hood as they give archery a go! The experts from Mountain Green Archery Club will be teaching participants archery basics at their indoor club in West Auckland.

Sailing

More information: Blind Sailing New Zealand are getting us out on the water for an afternoon of sailing! Please bring warm clothes, a waterproof jacket and close-toed shoes. Life jackets will be provided and must be worn at all times.

Numbers are limited for this session and participants will be selected on a first come, first served basis.

Self-Defence

More information: ‘SAFE Self-Defence & Close Quarters Combat’ are coming along to teach a two-hour workshop on how to defend yourself out on the streets. This hands-on workshop will teach participants a range of self-defence skills while helping to build their confidence.

More information: Participants will have the chance to sharpen up their swimming skills and build their water confidence in this swimming session with experienced swim coach. Please make sure to bring swimming togs, goggles, a towel and warm clothes to change into.


Rock Climbing

More information: We are excited to join with Parafed Auckland during their Junior Programme at Extreme Edge! Climbers need to wear comfortable clothing and close-toed shoes. A pizza lunch will be provided after our climb!

Cycling - cycling skills

More information: The team from Outdoor Experience will be leading us in a cycling skills workshop for all abilities. This is perfect for both first-time riders and cycling experts! Please let us know in the registration form below if you have access to your own bike and helmet. We can source both standard and tandem bikes for this session if needed. We encourage parents/guardians/older siblings (14+ years) to pilot tandem bikes for their child but we will also have volunteers available if needed.

Unfortunately this session is currently full for tandem bike users as we have filled all tandem bikes available. We are currently looking to access more tandem bikes and hope to open this up soon. If you have access to your own bike you can still register for this session.

Cycling - cycling trip

More information: In this session we are hitting the local cycle ways and putting our skills into action! Our bike trip will start and finish at the Manurewa Netball Centre. Please let us know in the registration form below if you have access to your own bike and helmet. We can source both standard and tandem bikes for this session if needed. Golf

More information: Participants will get the chance to become the next Lydia Ko when they tee up on the golf course! Experienced coach Stuart Thompson will be there to teach them all they need to know about golf. No specialist equipment needed and we will look at organising transportation to and from Homai.
